Bern joined The Shubert Organization later in 1997, and he is currently the Senior Project Manager for the Facilities Department. Bern helped negotiate with the US Department of Justice an agreement to upgrade Shubert's 17 Broadway Theatres to make them more accessible to patrons with disabilities. Over the years he has directed and managed the renovation of the Barrymore, Longacre, Booth, Schoenfeld, Jacobs, and Golden Theatres. He has recently completed a restoration and backstage renovation of the James Earl Jones Theatre (formerly Cort Theatre), and he directed the construction of a horizontal extension to the Jones Theatre for upgraded patron amenities, dressing rooms, and production service rooms. Currently, Bern is planning the renovation of the Lyceum Theatre, New York City's oldest, continuously operating legitimate theatre.
