In April 2016 the LHAT Board of Directors nominated and approved both Halsey and Alice to hold positions as Board Emeritus (see callout box for more information).

Halsey and Alice jointly head The North Group Inc. which, since 1987, has been assisting nonprofit theaters and performing arts centers across the country with an integrated approach to planning, board development, and fundraising designed to strengthen organizations' fundraising capacity and effectiveness. Both are active members of LHAT (Board members since 2010) and the Association of Performing Arts Professionals (active since 1975).

Halsey is the former Executive Director of the North Carolina Arts Council, the Charlotte Arts & Science Council, and New York City's Cultural Council Foundation. He has also been Vice President of C.W. Shaver & Company and Director of Corporate Contributions of Philip Morris (now Altria Group). Alice is a former Vice President handling corporate accounts for what are now JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America.

In 2013, the Association of Performing Arts Presenters honored Halsey and Alice by naming an award for them and making them the first recipients of the "Halsey and Alice North Award For Committed Excellence and Service to the Association of Performing Arts Presenters by an Alumni Board Member." Between them, Halsey and Alice have also received the Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina Association of Arts Councils; the Chairman's Award from Americans for the Arts; and the Fan Taylor Award from the Association of Performing Arts Presenters for outstanding service, creative thinking, leadership, and significant impact on the profession of presenting the performing arts. Halsey is a former Overseer and member of the Collections Committee, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Both Halsey and Alice are members of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Friends of Asian Art and former members of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston's Visiting Committee, Department of Art of Asia, Oceania and Africa, and the Friends of the Freer and Sackler Galleries. They have given much of their collection of contemporary Japanese ceramics to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Freer | Sackler Galleries at the Smithsonian Institution, Peabody Essex Museum, and Portland OR Art Museum. Halsey and Alice are both MBAs.

Criteria for Selecting LHAT Board Emeritus Board Member

Board Emeritus status may be conferred upon a past board member in recognition of distinguished service and consistent, exceptional dedication to the mission of the League. A Board Emeritus board member will have demonstrated outstanding personal commitment to sustaining LHAT and advancing its mission through extraordinary commitment, spirit and leadership.

The Board Emeritus board member serves with a voice but not a vote. The Board shall not have more than five Board Emeritus members at any given time.
